Customization in the Design Industry
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that these days you can literally have anything and everything customized? From sneakers to lattes, the ‘age of customization’ is ever-present in our day to day life’s. While the design industry has always been all about customization (yes, sometimes to the extreme), I find myself in awe of the abundance of options!
Among the sea of uniquely personalized products one of my favorites is the amazing work of Betona® tile. The company prides itself on offering tiles that can be customized an UNLIMITED number of ways. Just let that sink in….unlimited….the word both excites and scares me. As I’ve looked over Betona® tile‘s many projects the feeling of excitement definitely overrides the other initial reaction.
Betona® tile‘s are made in West Michigan, USA using 50% recycled glass from fluorescent light bulbs (post-consumer). They have introduced cutting edge technology that puts YOU in control. You can choose any color with any design!
Let’s take a look at how Betona® tile takes ideas and brings them to life!
Covenant Christian School:
The staff at Covenant Christian Elementary School in Ludington, Michigan wanted to provide their students with a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. Betona tile partnered with families, churches, and the community to ensure that the school received the enjoyable learning experience that they were after. Betona’s in-house designers created colorful and playful floor to wall illustrations.
Tribal Government Center:
The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians requested the Betona tile team create a series of breathtaking designs to make their new Tribal Government Center one with nature. Betona’s designers worked with Hooker Dejong’s Interior Design team to create a space that had natural elements similar to those along Lake Michigan’s shore. The team also created a custom color palette to enhance the natural elements.
Kiski Area School District:
Betona® tile teamed up with Canzian/Johnston Architects to develop creative and uplifting designs for the new Kiski Area Upper Elementary School. The in-house designers at Betona and the architect team at Canzian/Johnston kept in mind the goal of the School District and produced custom designs that included educational topics such as math, science, music and sports. They even created a custom color palette to enrich the learning experience.
In a time of personalized everything much of the design industry, like Betona® tile, has adopted the ‘have it your way‘ approach. Personally, I love that the industry is moving towards more customization as I believe that it gives creative individuals the opportunity to truly see their visions come alive.
What are your thoughts on the trend towards customization in the design industry?
